Illamasqua Contest…. The Mystery Guest!

No Comments 16 September 2010

I’m thrilled to be able to announce a fantastic contest in association with Illamasqua and Muse makeup academy.

I left a little clue in the teaser post yesterday and a couple of you did guess what the aim of this contest is going to be…

For the Art Of Darkness collection, Alex Box created a cast of 13 characters for a dark faerie banquet… We want you to create a 14th guest for this feast. Let your imagination run wild, and tell us all about the character you have created, and the inspiration behind the look…

For example, one of my favourite characters created  by Alex Box for the AoD collection is Androgyny – “Elusive, ethereal and unforgettable, the beauty of androgyny transcends the limitations of gender. This is a being for whom labels do not apply. Androgyny assumes whatever role takes its fancy and refuses to conform”

So create your own 14th character and tell us about them!

NB – Your creation is a makeup creation – you do NOT have to create a costume etc. You can if you want to, but the makeup is the thing we will be judging, not the costume etc.

For this contest there will be two ways to enter – you can either enter via a blog post/ email here at MizzWorthy, or you can enter by creating a video which is a maximum of five minutes long and leaving this as a response to the video on the MUSE youtube channel… For full details of how to enter, see the T&C’s below.

As always, the winners will be chosen by the fabulous Alex Box!
The prizes for this contest are the biggest and best yet – there will be a blog/email entry winner and a video entry winner.

Each winner will recieve the entire Art of Darkness collection from Illamasqua (value approx £350).

Each winner will also recieve a place on MUSE’s “Catwalk Trends Makeup Bootcamp“;

“An introduction to the hottest looks currently seen on the catwalk. A weekend of fun.”

This course has a value of £295 – From Dior to Prada, you’ ve seen the trends, now learn the Make Up! This short, intensive 2 DAY course pushes the boundaries. Master the hottest looks currently seen on the catwalk.”

(Dates: Sat 6th & Sun 7th November 2010, Sat 4th & Sun 5th February 2011, Sat 2nd & Sun 3rd April 2011)

To find out more about this, and all the other courses which MUSE run, check out their website HERE.

MUSE’s YouTube Channel can be found HERE, and you can also say hello to them on facebook HERE.

The MUSE youtube video to which you can leave responses is going live on their channel at 18.00 (UK time) tonight (16.09.10)

This is, I’m sure you will agree, a fantastic prize, and well worth winning.

Entries via blog post/email can be made in the usual manner to me – either leave a comment below, or email me your entry.

As usual, you MUST be a follower to the Blog, if you are entering via MizzWorthy, and you MUST Subscribe to the MUSE YT channel if you are entering via video!

For full list of terms annd conditions and full details of how to enter please carefully read “the  rules” below – we hav tried to anticipate all questions below…

THE RULES

  • To launch the Art of Darkness collection Alex Box created an amazing set of 13 characters for a faerie banquet. The aim of this contest is to create a final 14th character. Let your imagination run wild and play in the shadows to create your own guest for this very special banquet
  • Illamasqua has joined forces with myself and the fabulous LONDON MUSE, THE school of make up, to provide two spectacular prizes which reflect the challenge posed! There will be two ways to enter the contest – via blog/email here on MizzWorthy, or by Video by leaving a response to the LONDON MUSE video announcing the competition (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheLondonMuse).
  • There will be two winners, each will win the entire Art of Darkness Collection (value £350) and a place on LONDON MUSE’ s popular weekend course on the Latest Catwalk Make Up Trends (Value £295).
  • To enter in the form of a photograph/blog entry simply leave a comment below with a link to your post, or email me if you would prefer to enter by email or you want to enter but do not have a blog. Your entry must include a description of your character, the inspiration behind it and finally the look you have created. Any additional info such as how you created the look, products used etc can also be included. Please do not photoshop your entries.
  • To enter by submitting a video, you must leave a video response to the LONDON MUSE youtube competition video (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheLondonMuse), which must be a maximum of five minutes long. The video can either be presented as a make up tutorial or, as with blog/email entries, you can choose to tell us about your character, how you created it and show us the final look. Again, you can include further information if you would like to.
  • The contest will run for one month from Thursday 16th September to Midnight (UK time) Sunday 17th October 2010. This is the final deadline, and due to the nature of this contest, cannot be extended.
  • Entries via the blog will be acknowledged by return comment or email. If you do not receive an acknowledgment then please email me to ensure that I have received the entry.
  • The winner will be announced by Wednesday 27th October 2010
  • Entries by Video will be acknowledged by LONDON MUSE by email if, after submitting the youtube video, participants will email competitions@londonmuse.co.uk to notify of their youtube video upload.
  • You may use products/media from any range and brand to create your look. Products do not have to be purchased from Illamasqua.
  • Blog entrants must be followers of the blog, and likewise video entrants must be subscribed to the LONDON MUSE channel (thelondonmuse) on youtube. Given the effort and planning that goes into these contests, as well as the prizes on offer, this is a reasonable request and it also helps entrants to be able to find out about who has won easily.
  • Your entry MUST be an ORIGINAL COMPLETE LOOK of YOUR OWN CREATION – Past contests have seen entries in the form of a close up of an eye, or which appear to be taken from a student portfolio. Such entries will not be accepted as the prizes on offer this time are very desirable. This is a further reason for entrants being required to provide us with some supporting information about the character that they have created.
  • Finalists will be announced as soon as possible after the deadline. The blog/email entries will be judged by myself and Alex Cummins who works for Illamasqua, while the Video finalists will be selected by Nicci Jackson and Antonia Confalone from LONDON MUSE.
  • Alex Box will then make a final decision and select one winner from the blog/email entries and one winner from the video entries. Each winner will receive the entire Art of Darkness Collection (value approx £350) as well as a place on LONDON MUSE’ s Latest Catwalk Trends make up course (value £295).
  • NB – The prize does NOT include accommodation or travel to the location of LONDON MUSE school in central London. The winner must cover their accommodation/travel costs to and from the location of the school.
  • The contest is open internationally, and you may enter as many times as you like, each entry will be judged as an individual entry. You may enter the blog/email side, the video side, or both.
  • Judges decision is final.
  • The prize will not be transferable to another person. No part of a prize is exchangeable for cash or any other prize.
  • Entries will, as always be judged on the creativity and inspiration behind th look you create as well as the ability shown with makeup – we want to encourage people of all levels and backgrounds to enter! The contest is meant to be fun!

ELEMENTALS FINALISTS

No Comments 14 July 2010

Finally! After much deliberation the finalists have been whittled down – extre difficult this time, as you lot surpassed all expectations and we had over 60 entries…
In fact there are so many entries, I am also going to make a separate post with several “Honourable Mentions” – Entries I thought were fab, but didn’t quite make it through. Judging these gets tougher and tougher each time…

So without further ado, and in no particular order…
Tiny Bubbles 1841 (aka Meghan)
Meghans look is inspired by the element of earth, and she has made a You Tube video too of the looks which you can see HERE
I love the use of elements of nature such as leaves and grasses incorporated into the look, and although dramatic, this is an undeniably beautiful look.

Claudia Pelagetti – Ice Inspired Look

The design of this lovely asymmetric look evokes spiky ice peaks and crystals – beautiful.

Martian Delights – Troubled Waters
The title of this look obviously gives away its inspiration – stormy dark troubled water…

I loved the way this look uses a mask and conveys drama well, but doesn’t obscure the facial features. I also love the suggestion of sea foam on the top left side of the mask, and the clever use of the downward stroke on the right which cleverly seems to contour the face.

GlitterDoll7 – Earth inspired look…
Clearly a skilled application, using earthy tones which create a really dramatic look… Carly has also used the inspiration of desert creatures and reptile skin to great effect here. An editorial style look which would not look out of place on the catwalk I reckon…
Makeup Maniac – Fire Inspired Look
I love the contrast of the sharp lines and the soft blending – it sums up the chaotic and beautiful effects of fire in a beautiful way.
Lillian Low – Air Inspired Look
Lillian’s look is deceptively simple, but I felt it was extremely witty in its execution – She has used a simple look but added a twist to it to give herself a clever “windswept” look – I love the way Lillian has turned the idea of the look on its head, and added her own fab twist.

JennyLaLaLa – Water/Sea Inspired Look
Water and water inspired looks proved to be the most popular amongst the entrants – I loved Jenny’s because of the interesting eye shape and the use of embellishments which suggest a froth on the top of a wave…

Beauty’s Bad Habit – Water Inspired
I loved this look as it seemed almose icy and frozen – I almost felt I was looking at photographs taken underwater, and the look conveyed a really peaceful feeling, which contrasts the idea of frozen wastes of water.
I’m sure you will all join me in congratulating all of the finalists – Everyone who entered did so well, and there were some amazing looks – stay tuned for an honourable mentions post, and of course for the WINNERS, as chosen by Alex Box herself!
And once more thanks for your patience and understanding about the delays… I promise this will not happen again, as for one thing I refuse to move house ever again. Unless I’m nailed into a coffin at the time and my heart has stopped beating…

"Think Outside the Box" – The Finalists.

16 Comments 21 December 2009

Judging these contests seems to get more and more difficult each time we run one – Myself and Krystal were, as usual, blown away by the amazing entries we had. Each and every entry was fantastic, and we want to thank everyone for taking the time to enter.

When it came to picking the finalists for this competition, we decided to judge the looks on the idea and inspiration behind the look, ie the “Thinking Outside the Box” aspect of the entry, as well as the final execution of the look….

So without further ado, in no particular order, our finalists are;

1. Lillian Low – “Reverse Rococo”

Check out Lillians blog and original post for this look here
The idea behind Lillians look was to create an “inverted” or “negative” image of a rococo look, and then use photoshop to invert the look  – You really need to have a look at the post for a better explaination. Now, before we get any comments about photoshopping being against the rules, we allowed this because Lillian did not use photoshop to make her final look more “perfect”, but rather to execute her idea.

Great attention to detail too – right down to the eyelashes! Well done Lillian!
See the rest of the finalists by clicking on the link;

2. Jack Gatsby – “Out of The Box, Into the Jungle”
See Jack’s original post and check out his blog here.
Jack created his “Tiki” look inspired by Voodoo and Witch Doctors. We loved the imaginitive use of hair extensions (to create lashes), and we also loved the way Jack didn’t stop with the face – he went all out to create a costume here…

Well done Jack!
3. Helen Hurst – “Picasso Inspired”
Helen’s entry came via email, and he says this is the first time he has ever entered a makeup competition – Well, surely more contests beckon! Helen’s look was inspired by the style of Picasso’s work.
 Well done Helen!
4. Jen from Beauty School Blog – “Nude Eye, Smoky Lip”
You can find Jen’s blog and the original post here.
This was a really simple idea, but we loved the fact that Jen took a classic makeup look (the nude lip and smoky eye), and turned it on its head…

Well done Jen!
And last but by no means least…
5. Felicia Williams-Tan “Cirque Du Soleil” look.
This was an email entry from Felicia – we were really impressed again by the fact that you extended the look, using the makeup down the neck and onto the body too – we loved the matching hat and costume too!

Well done Felicia!
Thanks again to all our entrants – we hope you are looking forward to more fab contests in 2010!

Illamasqua Contest – UPDATE AND APOLOGY!

No Comments 17 December 2009

Just wanted to make a quick post, as it was brought to my attention last night that I have made a bit of a boo-boo on the closing date front for the “Think Outside the Box” contest. The date posted on the original post was Midnight on the 17thDecember, however the 17th is actually Thursday – therefore the contest will atually close tonight ie Thursday 17th Dec at Midnight GMT.

Many apologies for the mistake – I hope you are not all too angry with me about it!

Illamasqua Contest… THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX….

31 Comments 21 November 2009

Contest time again – we thought we’d squeeze one more in just before Christmas, so a couple of lovely people out there might get something extra in their stocking this year…

The theme for this one is fairly loose, and it’s simply called…

Think Outside the Box

Why so vague you ask? Well, thats all to do with the prizes…
Avid readers of this blog will have read about the recent publication of the Alex Box Book – a sumptuous collection of beautiful, artistic and inspired photographs and collages created by Alex Box, creative director of Illamasqua, and the lady responsible for the amazing promo images used by Illamasqua.
The photographs in the book were taken by Rankin, one of the leading photographers in fashion, beauty and modern imagery today, making this book a lust have for anyone interested in art, phorography, fashion, beauty or all of the above…
I’m really pleased to say that the first prize for this contest is going to be a copy of this beautiful book SIGNED BY ALEX BOX, together with a set of limited edition lashes from the brand (value £50)
Second Prize will be consist of three makeup brushes from the range(this has a value of over £50!)…. The brushes are suitable for vegetarians/vegans, and are superb quality, I own many of the brushes from the range myself, and can say, this is also a fabulous prize.
All we want you to do, it to literally, let your creativity flow, think outside the box, and come up with something different…
Here are some photos from the book to get you inspired;

Now, before you all go into a panic, thinking you can’t possibly create an image like this… STOP! We don’t expect you to – All you need to do is come up with something different  and original (anything that is a recreation of an existing look will be disqualified!)- think about it…

Who says you cant doodle on your face with eyeliner?
Who says blusher can’t be blue
Why can’t you paint your face purple wuth a gold design over the top?
Why do we only use false lashes on the lashline? What about using them to create bizzare eyebrows? Come to that matter, who needs eyebrows anyway – conceal them and do something different!

What about using pieces of lace or chopped up fishnet tights to use as a stencil to create a mask?
Take contouring to the extreme using colours or even create a completely monochrome look with black and white…
Play with textures, and treat your face like a collage…

All we ask is that you let your creative juices flow and create something ORIGINAL!

In addition – Please be reassured that our finalists will be selected on the basis of CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY, AND NOT SIMPLY TECHNIQUE – there you go – another reason not to be afraid!

The Rules!

Contest entries are to be in the form of (non-photoshopped) photo entries – these may be in the form of a blog post, or you can email me them to me directly. You can find my email address on the right (See…. even less reason to be scared!)….

(I have made the decision not to take video entries this time, as past competitors were not sending me stills for judging purposes, and I don’t think I will have time to chase people up for these as I have the run up to Christmas and a job interview to cope with too – I hope to accept video entries for future competitions).

If you decide to do your entry via a
blog post, then let me know by posting a c
omment below, and feel free to harass me until I acknowledge your entry by leaving a comment on your post. Email entries will be acknowledged by a reply email – again, feel free to harass me until I respond!

Your entry MUST BE AN ORIGINAL LOOK OF YOUR OWN CREATION – any looks which are copies/recreations of existing looks will be disqualified.

Use any products or any media you like to create your look, products do not have to be from any particular brand.

If you are too shy to be photographed yourself then you may use a willing volunteer – please get their permission to have their photos published online if your look is a finalist. Just ensure the look is of your own creation.

The contest closes at Midnight on Wednesday 17th December. This is the final deadline and no extensions will be made – if we extend then Alex Box will be unable to judge due to her schedule.

Please be a subscriber to the blog.

The contest is open internationally.

Multiple entries are FINE – Enter as MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT TO!!!

Finalists will be selected by myself and Krystal, my co-judge, and the final winner and runner up will then be chosen by Alex Box, Winners will be announced as soon as possible after this, and judges decisions are final.

HAVE FUN!

Heroes and Villains – THE WINNERS!

Heroes and Villains – THE WINNERS!

14 Comments 28 September 2009

First of all, apologies for all the delays with announcing the winners for this contest – our fab judge Alex Box has been extremely busy with London Fashion Week – she finally had time to scrutinise the finalist looks and make her decision today…

Like me and Krystle, Alex loved all the looks, and was glad to see how well all our entrants explored their inner hero or villain -She also thought how interesting it is to see different manifestations of good/evil and how people interpreted the theme so differently.

As I mentioned in the post announcing the finalists, we were amazed that we had FAR more villainous entries than heroic ones (you lot are clearly in touch with the dark side…), so without further ado…

Our RUNNER UP villain is Gracie’s twist on “Valentina the Serpent Queen”… Alex chose this look for the runner up as (she has) “Really gone for it! Gutsy execution and looks like she really had fun with it – which is what this contest is all about!”
Congrats Grace!

Our Fab winning look in the Villains category goes to Unicorn Smile, who submitted an amazing look based on Catwoman… Alex chose this look because “it is a very beautiful, very elegant take on a villain. Sharply executed and yet with a soft modern edge. Love it”. We loved it too, so well done to our top villain!

Moving onto the good guys… Our runner up hero was this amazing look based on Captain America by TackyBlueEyeShadow . Alex praised this look highly – “A very cool interpretation of comic hero Captain America. Very editorial – Dazed and Confused would love it!”. Well done Tacky – not only did we love the makeup, but we also loved the emulation of the man himself in the poses!
Last, but by no means least, our winning Hero look comes from Adina at KraseyBeauty.
Alex felt this look had the edge because of its “Interesting mix of classic eye shapes and contemporary skin patterns. She has clearly thought outside the box.” Well done Adina (We are still trying to work out how you got those stars so perfect too…)!

Our runners up will win an eyeshadow and nail varnish of their choice from Illamasqua, as well as an additional surprise from yours truly; The two first place winners will each recieve three eye shadows and a nail varnish of their choice from Illamasqua, plus a surprise from me…

All winners need to let me know what their addresses and choices are ASAP – My email is over to the side!

I’m sure you will all join us in saying a massive CONGRATULATIONS to all our winners!

Illamasqua Contest Finalists!

Illamasqua Contest Finalists!

Okies, first up a massive apology for the lateness of this post – Myself and Krystle have no excuse other than the hecticness of life at the moment, as well as the usual horrendousness of having to pick finalists and umming and ahhing for days! Thank-you all so so much for your patience – we really appreciate it, and thanks for the usual FAB entries we have had – you are all amazing, and we found this one especially hard to judge. You all amazed us with your creativity!

The Villains section was by far the most popular… so we’ll start with the bad guys(in no particular order…)

First up we have this look based on Valentina The Serpent Queen, created by Gracie from Graciefied Shopaholic
Gracie – we have no idea how you created that snakeskin effect, but we love it!

Next up, this look created by Unicorn Smile, based on the femme fatale from the Batman series – Catwoman.

Unicorn – we loved your twist on the idea of cawoman, and were also impressed by the eybrow crafting going on…sexy, sophisticated and still villainous!

Our last villainous finalist is inspired by another character from the Batman series – Harley Quinn, one time lover of The Joker – we had loads of entries for both Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, all of which were great, but we particularly loved this entry by Jen from Beauty School Blog

We felt like this look conveyed the villainy and madness of the character really well – a fab villain!

Moving on to the Heroes (again, in no particular order)…

Our first good guy was a character created by the ever fabulous Krasey Beauty – She created her own Hero – “Starchild – she is a fiery little vixen that is out to save the world. Her makeup pays homage to the bright colors of the 80′s, and she has lots of star power”

Krasey – we’d love to know how you got all those stars so uniform and perfect – great colours and tres 80′s-tastic!

Our next hero was inspired by Sailor Moon, and created by GlaMakeup. Apparently, the character doesn’t wear a mask, so GlaMakeup created one for her…

Last, but by no means least, this amazing look based on Captain America from TackyBlueEyeshadow.
We totally LOVE this look – and we loved the salute too!

Well done to all our fab finalists – we hope you will all join us in congratulating them all, and we also want to say thanks to everyone who entered – we always struggle judging the contests, and this one seemed to be the most difficult so far!

All finalist looks will now be forwarded to Illamasqua for Alex Box to make the final decision!

MizzWorthy, Krystle and all the lovely Illamasqua peeps xxx

Contest Inspiration – Superheroes and Villains!

2 Comments 28 August 2009

Thanks again to Krystle who has sent me these amazing inspiration pics for the villains out there!
The first one above was a drawing actually inspired by a combination of Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill, and Krystal herself – Love this!

I don’t know if it’s meant to, but the next one reminds me of the evil queen from Snow White – maybe its that apple!
A very strikingly evil look… could this be inspired by Darth Maul?

Hammer house of horrors?
This one reminds me of a snow queen, or gothic comic book vampiress…

Loving the use of monochrome here to create a striking, contoured and sinister look…Beautiful!

Dramatic use of colour and contouring create a different twist on villainy…

Yet again, proving that often the simplest ideas are the most effective… I adore this one

A creative mask look – masks to me can be used to represent Superheroes or villains…

Keep those entries coming in – you are all FAB!
