Keeping it Simple – Current FOTD, Featuring a Few Favourites…

5 Comments 16 May 2011

While sometimes its nice to spend a long time getting ready and applying makeup, other times it feels more like a chore. Like at 6am prior to an early shift for example. These are the times when I settle for looking human, rather than washed out corpse! These are also the times when I need to apply quickly, without the aid of a load of brushes…

So a current look I’m wearing a lot, was borne out of these circumstances… clearly though, I failed to recognise the need to keep my eyebrowns under control prior to taking the pictures, but you take me as you find me… They are in better shape now though, I can assure you!

This look is created using minimal products, and applied with fingers (apart from one powder brush…).

The base is Korres watermelon tinted moisturiser with SPF30, which is one of my faourite bases – somewhat higher coverage than the average tinted moisturiser, and dries down to a satin rather than very dewy finish, and I set this with a light dusting of pressed powder through the t-zone. At the moment I’m using 17′s pressed powder which is a nice little budget find.

On the cheeks I apply a little of one of my all time favourite cream blushers - Rude by Illamasqua – and blend with fingers. Finally a quick coat of mascara (in this case MUFE’s smoky lash, which I love, but is hard to find), and a slick of lipbalm, and I’m done.

Granted, its not exactly the most glam of looks, but its a standby that stops me looking like death warmed up.

What standbyes do you fall back on when you are in a rush?

FOTD – Bronzy Natural…

You all know I’m a pale creature really – I’d be great for some sort of undercover vampire bust. Most of the time I love being “Pale and Interesting” but I’ve been getting more and more into bronzers and fake tans, which is most unlike me. But I’m happy to go with it.

Anyway, I decided to try to extend my bronzy look northwards, and get a tanned but not orange look going…

For the skin, I steered clear of foundation, but insead used a sheer bronzing gel (Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess Tinted Gel), which is a wash off formula and fab for one off days when you want to cut down on the pastiness… It can also be mixed with foundations and tinted moisturisers. I did blend it down the neck as mine is naturally a LOT paler than my face – I know my neck still looks paler but this is my natural colouring!

I used Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel to contour and MAC MSF in Perfect Topping as a highlighter. I also added a smidge of Illamasqua powder blush in Nymph to add a touch of colour.

I kept the eyes really simple with a greyish taupe swept over (I used Bourjois Ombre Stretch in Brun Nylon) and just blended it out. I then used a D&G gold eye pencil on the waterline, and 17 Wild Curls Mascara.

On the lips I used a Le Metier de Beaute lip gloss in the shade Liberty, on top of The Body Shop Sweet Lemon lip butter. This is basically a taupey gold gloss which adds a gold sheen to the lips.

There are loads of different lip glosses that would look fab with this type of look… I dug out a few from my collection;

From Left to Right;
Estee Lauder Sweet Kiss from the Valentines collection – LE but there are many similar shades available!
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess gloss in Wild Orchid – I believe these are still available!
Illamasqua Sheer Lipgloss in Torture, a warm sheer peachy orange.
Estee Lauder Cherry Kiss from Valentine Collection
Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess gloss in Wild Coral
Illamasqua Sheer Gloss in Enchant.
Revlon lipgloss in Peach Petal
Lipstick Queen Big Band lipgloss in Infinite.

What lipglosses do you love with a summer bronzy look or tanned skin?

FOTD – Random Colours and Pink lips?

I’m not sure this is the greatest look I’ve ever worn, but I enjoyed wearing it non the less, mainly because I loved wearing the hot pink lips…

Pardon the blurred pics – I was dashing out for a coffee with the Mister before the shops closed, and he was barking “get your arse in gear” from downstairs at me…

On the face I’m wearing Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation, with a little Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel (aka Bronze Universal) to contour and bronze, no blusher, and no powder.

On lips I dabbed on Barry M lip paint in 144, a deep berry shade, as a sort of stain, which I dabbed and blended with fingers for a softer look, and I topped that off with Estee Lauder’s Pink Kiss gloss.

So far so good but then the eyes got a little bit random…

I fancied a play with my Illamasqua shadows, so I went ahead and grabbed a few… I applied the shade Justify, which is basically a little darker than the natural colour of my eyelids, all over the lids and towards the browbone. For some reason I then picked up a green shade (Yearn – a brightish Army green type colour) and blended that across the crease and into the outer corner. Then I used Furore pigment to highlight the browbone and the cheek.

So the eyes looked fine, as did the lips and the rest of the face. I’m just not sure the eyes and the lips worked together…

Oh well, you live and learn…

FOTD… And Newly Dyed Hair!

Another quick and easy look today… for some reason everything is rather washed out today on photo’s… but hopefully, you get the idea!

I used Bourjois healthy mix foundation, Chanel Bronze Universal (or Soleil Tan De Chanel as its know nowadays… *tut*), and Inglot liquid blush in shade 87 on the face, with The Body Shop Bronzer in Warm Glow over the top of the cheeks. Highlight was MAC msf in Perfect Topping…

On the eyes the Body Shop eye colour in Jade from the “Baked To Last” collection, and a black kohl on the water line.

On the lips, I have Estee Lauders Crystal Baby – its probably one of my top five fave lippies of the hundreds I have! A definite repurchase!

I also did a quick dye job on my hair today as well – I used a L’oreal Herbashine which I picked up in Boots recently for around a fiver. I have chucked the box away but it was a medium mahogony brown shade and had a picture of Bar Rafielli on the box (I have no idea who she is). The Herbashines are one of those new generation ten minute jobs – non permanent, so you get a shiny refreshed look without damage. Not dramatic but it looks a lot better than it did this morning!

Because I’m Worth It!

FOTD… Simple Natural Look

No Comments 12 July 2010

As much as I love my war paint, sometimes its just too much – work days and hot weather are never great bedfellows with a full on look, so I thought I’d share a typical day to day look. This is something I’d typically wear on a summery warm day. On a day off, I’d probably wear more eye makeup, but to be honest, heavy makeup in the heat both feels gross on me, and also looks a bit “special FX” by about lunchtime when it starts to slide… Not good!

Looks like I’m not wearing much, and I’m not really, just tried to polish up what nature gave me (yes, turns out you can polish a turd!)…

Products Used;

I applied Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (I use the lightest shade, nude) with my fingers for a light natural look, and my Laura Mercier undercover pot for under eyes and any blemishes/areas of pigmentation.

I then applied INGLOT liquid blusher in shade 87 to the cheeks and blended out with a MAC 109 brush. Over the top of this, I swept the Body Shop mineral bronzer in “Warm Glow” (full review of the new Body Shop range coming soon by the way!). which added a peachy bronze glow over the top.

I also dusted the bronzer over my eye lids and under the lower lashline with a blending brush, and then used the highlighter from the Body Shop blush in “Petal” below the brow. The camera has washed this out a little…

I also used a random brown liner on the waterliner to add a little bit of definition… defined my brows with my favourite brow pencil from Shu Uemura (mine is a Hard Formula 6 in “Seal Brown”), and for something a bit different used a Sumptuous Colour Mascara from Estee Lauder in “Amethyst”.

A slick of 17 Mirror Shine lipstick in “Bee-hive” which is a lovely peachy nude finished it off…

Sounds like a lot of step, but it’s mostly stuff I do everyday anyhow… so I reckon this took about 5-10 minutes.

Despite my obsession with foundation, I am really loving tinted moisturiser at the moment – I have two, this LM one, and also Korres Watermelon tinted moisturiser which has an SPF 30 and I also love… What are your current summer must haves?

Face of the Day

No Comments 01 April 2010

Its been a while since I’ve done a FOTD post, and although I have a LOT of reviews to do, I fancied doing something a bit more relaxed…

Nothing too complicated here as you can see – oh I’m wearing the new Revlon PhotoReady foundation here (I’m shade number three, shell – amazed is not the word when I discovered I am not the palest shade in a foundation for once!). I’m liking this foundation a lot overall, and I haven’t taken on the appearance of Edward Cullen, which is nice.

I fancied a play with my green Inglot palette, so I dug that out too;

I’m really impressed with these shadows actually – they are well pigmented, and go on smoothly. They also blend well, and stay put well without a base… and they are very well priced too – these five shadow palettes cost about £15 if my memory serves me right…
I wish Inglot would hurry the heck up and get more shops in the UK! Also, I wish you could buy the pans on their own too… but thats by the by…

I also used this cheap and cheerful mascara from C2000 called Big Fake – I’m only allowed to buy very cheap things until we move and I have paid for my makeup course. I expected NOTHING from this mascara to be completely honest, as it only cost about £4. Also, when I saw the size of the brush I expected to just get this mascara all over myself…

 Seriously, this brush can be seen from space – its HUGE. But you’ll also notice a distinct lack of clumps here – this mascara is actually not bad – it doesn’t, in my opinion give massive false lashes, but for £4 it does a really decent job.

As you can see in the pic, the mascara gives decent definition with no clumping, rather than big false looking lashes. I’d repurchase this for an everyday mascara, rather than a night time dramatic one. Its easily removed with an oily eye makeup remover or facial oil too. Oh , I have Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Lucky on the waterline too.

On the cheecks I used my Illamasqua bronzing duo for contouring and blush, and on the lips Crystal Baby from Estee Lauder, which I love… Eyebrows are all my own (although they have asked me to apologise for their ungroomed state).

FOTD… Featuring YSL, RMK, Rouge Bunny Rouge and Illamasqua…

21 Comments 24 September 2009

I finally decided it was time to have a play with the YSL palette I recently hauled – which you can see in my vid here – Here is the look I came up with…

Ok, so products used;

Face;
RMK Creamy foundation, applied and blended with Illamasqua foundation brush.
Illamasqua loose powder LP115, applied with Illamasqua powder brush
Illamasqua Bronzing duo applied with MAC109 brush
Illamasqua powder blush in Lover, applied with MAC109 brush.

I adore the RMK foundation – I find the whole concept of holy grail products debatable, as there are always new things to try etc, but its safe to say, this is a staple for me.
I’m also definitely finding that Illamasaqua’s powder blush in Lover is definitely getting more than its fair share of use – so versatile. It can be dusted on lightly as done here for a natural look, or built up for drama, and it seems to go well with a lot of different looks too.

Eyes;
MAC paintpot in painterly applied with ring fingers as base.
YSL 5 Colour harmony eye palette number 7 applied with various brushes…
NARS Himalayas single shadow as highlighter.
Clarins brow palette for brows
The Body Shop metallic eye definer pencil in Bronze applied to waterline.
Urban decay 24/7 eye definer in black to tightline.
L’Oreal Telescopic mascara in Carbon black

I’m pretty impressed with the palette too – the colours are well put together and the liner shadow is easy to use. They stayed the distance too, lasting through a full days shopping and coffee meet up with my darling mummy.

I broke out the L’Oreal telescopic mascara as a bit of a change from Rimmel Sexy Curves – first impressions are good – its a ery lengthening rather than volumising mascara, and very impressed with the lack of clumping.

The Body Shop eye liner is a lovely shade and definitely looks metallic – wore reasonably well, about 3-4 hours before a touch up was required.

The Clarins brow palette is very good, and I think worthy of its own review!

Lips;
Rouge Bunny Rouge sheer lipstick in Fluttering Sighs.

I LOVE this lipstick – the whole RBR range is expensive yet, but do you know what? I really think it’s worth every penny. I’m really pleased that Zuneta are increasing the numbers of shades they are carrying from this range.

Hope you liked my FOTD, and mini-reviews along the way!

This is a look I’ve been wearing a lot over the last few days, so thought I’d share… I think I look so serious in the photo above, as here at Casa De Worthy, we have had a casualty of makeup proportions…

Those of you who twitter with me, will know that I had a reorganisation of my stash last night, curtesy of some flat-pack from IKEA… It is my sad duty to report that my urban decay brow box is missing… This is a definite staple product for me, and I feel like my brows don’t look quite right. Oh well, time to hunt out a replacement!

Well, here is a picture of me looking a little happier;

Products Used;

Face;
Korres Watermelon tinted moisturiser
ELF mineral blush in Coral
Rouge Bunny Rouge liquid highlighter (AKA candlelight in a bottle) blended in “C” shape around eye and up to brow bone, and also a smidge down the centre of the nose.
Illamasqua pressed powder (PP115) dusted over T-Zone.

Eyes

MAC paintpot in bare study as base,
Rouge Bunny Rouge shadow in “Unforgettable Oriole” (muted pale gold shade) over lid and blended up to browbone.
Rouge Bunny Rouge shadow in “Abyssinian Catbird” in crease and outer lid.
Rouge Bunny Rouge shadow in “Bejewelled Skylark” in outer V.
Loreal Telescopic carbon black mascara.
UD 24/7 Liner in “Lucky” (bronze-gold shade) on waterline, and upper lashline.
ABSENT – ud brow box!

Lips.

Barry M lipgloss in “Toffee” – this smells like toffee and adds a nice sheen – probably as near to a nude lip as I’m willing to go!

FOTD – Putting Bourjois products to the test!

FOTD – Putting Bourjois products to the test!

18 Comments 01 August 2009

I was recently sent a few bits from Bourjois by Wendy at their press office to have a play with – a mascara, a lipgloss and an eye-pencil – of the three pieces, the eye pencil had instant appeal to me as it was a fab electic blue colour (the shade I recieved is No 46 – Bleu Neon), and boasts of being waterproof… Apparently the “Contour Clubbing Waterproof” liners are a fairly new product in the line – they are available for £4.20 at ASOS or in Boots and Superdrug stores nationwide…

After recieving these products it occured to me that it has been AAAAGGGGGEEES since I picked any products up from the line – I used to adore the double ended mascara when I was younger. I believe it’s fairly common knowledge that Bourjois products are produced in the same factories that produce a lot of the Chanel products, so I decided to pick up a “Shimmering Shine, Liquid Eyeshadow” in shade No 33 – Beige Metallique, which looks like this –

I picked this up because I had a feeling it might make a good multipurpose product – ie a liquid eyeshadow, an eyeshadow base (in the same vein as UDPP in Sin?), and also as a liquid highlighter which could be used on the face… I still need to give this product a good test out, so will report back on this! (I also had a good look at the other liners available in the range – there were some interesting looking “duochrome” liners which I might pick up later on…)

Anyway, I used these two products to create this look – I was going to work, so this is really as loud as I can go unfortunately lol… I was advised in a recent FOTD post that I don’t smile enough (I do this on purpose as I hate my teeth, and think I generally look quite strange when I smile…), but I made a special effort with the smiles today…

Products used;

Face;
Chanel Pro-Lumiere foundation
Clarins face, blush and contour palette from the Nude Inspirations collection
Illlamasqua pressed powder to set.

Eyes;
Bourjois Shimmering Shine liquid eyeshadow in Beige Metallique applied over lid and blended up to brow bone with finger.
Bourjois contour clubbing waterproof liner in blue neon applied to create a flick, above upper lashline and blended into lower lashline.
Rimmel Sexy Curves mascara in intense black

Lips;
The Body Shop lipstain and gloss duo from “Hot Brights” collection (pink)

So how well did the Bourjois products perform?
I wore the look for a delightful NHS shift in the community for 8 hours,so altogether was wearing the makeup for 9 hrs between the pics being taken above and the pic below…

I’m actually really impressed with both the liner and the liquid eyeshadow, given the price, the liner lasted really well – it did loose some of its intensity, but it is still very much there and really quite vivid still – the metallic sheen that the liquid shadow produced lasted well, akthough dod fade slightly in terms of colour (The light at the time the second photo was taken does it no favours really…) – but not bad for drugstore!

What do you think? Any other product recommendations from Bourjois?
