Smoky Eye Pictures from the Course…

This is the smoky look I created…

As per usual, I wanted to do something a bit different – I really liked this look, but I’d do something more wearable for a paying customer! I think my model was a little alarmed when she saw it…

And here are some of the looks the other members of the group created…

Here are some more pics of the looks I showed in earlier posts too…
First of all, 1920′s;

Day Five…

Was our opportunity to try things we weren’t too happy with, and also to have our makeup done by Sam or Nic if we wanted to… Which was a good job as we were all feeling slightly delicate after a drink the night before!

I wanted to give natural/bridal makeup another try as I always find dramatic looks easier to create, whereas realistically natural and smoky looks are the most commonly requested!

Annoyingly, the light has made this look a lot more natural than it actually was – this was a light smoky eye with natural cheeks and lips in reality, and was a lovely bridal look, which I was pleased with.

Other people spent the day getting creative!

I’ve still got more pics from the course of smoky eyes… Wanna see?

Day Four….

Was all about the drama!

Drag and glitter were the orders of the day…

Above – drag look as created by Sam…
Above – Nic showed us a few ways to use glitter…

And then we got to work…

The top two looks were created by other students on the course, and I created the lowest look – It didn’t turn out exactly like I wanted, but it was fun to create!
Day three… 1920's and Modern Look.

Day three… 1920's and Modern Look.

I was very lucky today, as I got to work on both Sam and Nic.

This morning, we worked on period looks… I have always loved 1920′s makeup – it ain’t exactly pretty but this was the time when women decided to challenge the notion that only “ladies of the night” wore makeup, and really went for it. This look was great to do as I had (try) to erase Sam’s brows and draw in a completely different shape. Normally in a picture these would be edited out too using photoshop etc…

I also worked on a more recent look on Nic in the afternoon…

I have some pics of the other fab looks created today and the other guys on the course have kindly agreed to allow me to post pictures of their work too… unfortunately they are on my camera, so will be posted next week!

Favourite products today included MAC paintpot in quite natural as an eye base (a warm brown) which deepened pigmentation without the harshness of a black base… Also easier to work with than blackground paintpot. MUFE aqua liners for both lips and eyes are really creamy but have good staying power, and Chanel’s loose powder is lovely… Finely milled and undetectable but does what powder is supposed to do!

Day 2!

Another fab day today with Sam and Nic, AKA Pixiwoo, as well as all the other lovely ladies at the fashion face tv makeup course.

Today’s focus was on finishing the bridal looks we started working on yesterday. We also did a session on arabic and asian bridal looks, and the ubiquitous smoky eye…

I had a ball creating a bronzy, dramatic smoky with a twist this afternoon – Unfortunately I cant upload the pics at the moment, as I only have my net book here with me, and I can’t upload pics from my current camera onto it. But there will be lots of pictures next week! The look I created was probably not the most wearable, but you know I like doing different things – it seemed pointless to simply do another bridal look layout with darker colours…

Favourite products today included Max Factor 2000 calorie mascara, and Clinique Black Honey gel eyeliner, I also loved the Louise Young round foundation brush for really buffing foundation into the skin and helping avoid the foundation “sitting” on the skin.

Also a few people asked on twitter last night about future courses. Sadly, for the time being Sam and Nic won’t be doing any stand alone courses like this one again, but will instead be teaching for Muse, and covering fashion makeup for three days per week on their courses. If I hear any changes to this in the future, I’ll be sure to pass on the info!

Oh, and since I can’t actually upload any pics, I thought it might be nice to upload a picture I am lusting after recreating…

I love love love the eye in this look – I have the palette back at home to review, and I am going to have a try at creating a look inspired by it.

What does Skeletor have in Common with a Bride?

… They are both makeup looks I did today!

Yes folks, Day One of the Fashion Face TV course is now completed. And Sam and Nic are both lovely – I was super nervous before I arrived, but they put the whole group at ease and were very friendly and approachable throughout the whole day. I asked lots of questions and I was never made to feel like I was being a pain (even though I possibly was. Most unlike me…)

The “Skeletor” look was actually one of the most useful (and hardest) learning experiences I have ever had in terms of makeup application - basically we used black and white to contour the whole face. It taught me a lot about blending as well as heaps about shading and blending…

We also started to cover bridal makeup, which was fun. The great thing about the course is you get lots of tips throughout on actually setting up as a working makeup artist, and making enough to live on. Bridal makeup is likely to form the bulk of private work for MUA’s so I’m glad we are covering this, as well as asian bridal, which is a lot more dramatic. I can’t wait to do that! We also got some great hygeine tips and practical information too.

I’m really enjoying the course so far – there are ten of us attending, which is a nice size group. Most of the people on the course have not done any formal training yet either, so its not too intimidating. There are also TONNES of different products to try, so I’m hoping to be able to get a good feel for what products I’d like for my kit.

My favourite items so far – the Louise Young Socket Brush (SO much better than the MAC 226), and also the MAC 138 Tapered blush which made for easy contouring. In terms of products, I’ve added MAC face and body in white to my ever growing list of kit items, and also really like the MUFE HD primer that was used on me.

I'm SO excited…!

No Comments 06 July 2010

My place is now all booked and paid for, everything is all confirmed, and I’m super excited!
What am I whittering on about? Well, I’m booked onto the Fashion Face.tv 1 week intensive makeup course in August, as taught by the Pixiwoo sisters. And I just cannot wait! (Find details of future courses by clicking HERE)

I’ve always wanted to do some form of training as a makeup artist, as I do enjoy being creative with makeup. I’m not sure what will come of it, but all I do know is that if I don’t give this a try, I’ll always wonder what might have happened, and what I might have been able to do. Realistically I know there are a lot of MUA’s out there and it’s a competitive market, so possibly not much will happen. But at least I’ll know I’ve tried, and will have done something with the creative person lurking inside me… But then on the other hand, I do live close to two large cities, including Liverpool, where there will be no shortage of volunteers and (fingers crossed) eventual clients…

I think this is probably my favourite video from Pixiwoo’s channel… although, it’s a very hard choice, as there are so many creative looks on there.

… I love watching creative looks come to life like this, and so I suppose I’m hoping doing the course will help me to unleash the beginnings of being able to do that myself.

I’m not expecting miracles in a week, but it will be fab to learn some new techniques, as well as basic stuff like how to match foundation and build a kit. I’m also a little bit nervous, as I know that there will be people on the course with loads more experience than me. But I figure they started somewhere, so I have to as well. I just hope my attempts are not too comical when compared!

I’m hoping to do a few blogs and maybe even some vlogs from the week there, and fingers crossed get a bit of footage of the girls themselves…

So stay tuned!
