Keeping it Simple – Current FOTD, Featuring a Few Favourites…

5 Comments 16 May 2011

While sometimes its nice to spend a long time getting ready and applying makeup, other times it feels more like a chore. Like at 6am prior to an early shift for example. These are the times when I settle for looking human, rather than washed out corpse! These are also the times when I need to apply quickly, without the aid of a load of brushes…

So a current look I’m wearing a lot, was borne out of these circumstances… clearly though, I failed to recognise the need to keep my eyebrowns under control prior to taking the pictures, but you take me as you find me… They are in better shape now though, I can assure you!

This look is created using minimal products, and applied with fingers (apart from one powder brush…).

The base is Korres watermelon tinted moisturiser with SPF30, which is one of my faourite bases – somewhat higher coverage than the average tinted moisturiser, and dries down to a satin rather than very dewy finish, and I set this with a light dusting of pressed powder through the t-zone. At the moment I’m using 17′s pressed powder which is a nice little budget find.

On the cheeks I apply a little of one of my all time favourite cream blushers - Rude by Illamasqua – and blend with fingers. Finally a quick coat of mascara (in this case MUFE’s smoky lash, which I love, but is hard to find), and a slick of lipbalm, and I’m done.

Granted, its not exactly the most glam of looks, but its a standby that stops me looking like death warmed up.

What standbyes do you fall back on when you are in a rush?

“Stops me looking like death warmed up.” Ha ha.

Oh jeez, I’ve never been in a hurry. Wait…my school life is a hurry. I have EXACTLY half an hour to get up, make my bed, take my meds, get dressed, put on my makeup, do my hair and get out the door. What do I do? Um, Dermalogica ultracalming toner, barrier repair, Clinique foundation (name escapes me…it’s more like tinted moisturizer), UD Zero, Virgin Naked Buck and Darkhorse from UD Naked (it takes me EXACTLY 2 minutes to do this smokey eye. I’m that good at it), my Almay mascara, Benefit boi-ing concealer, Stila Convertible color in petunia and usually some sort of Stila lip glaze. Yea, it sounds long. I go FAST. Of course, I don’t do anything fancy to my hair (actually, I don’t do the driving, so I usually am braiding it in the car); I leave straightening or hair drying for off-school days!

Yea, I’m bad. There’s nothing simple with me. XD

Wowzers lady, you put the likes of me to shame – I count myself lucky if I have time to straighten the front of my hair on a bad day! Love it!

That is such a pretty photo of you Jen you look so relaxed. I love doing quick makeups brings all the tricks i have learned over the years. A great quick blush idea for me is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal.Good for eyes too.

I love Illamasqua cream blushes when I’m rushing, usually I’ll just use some rimmel hide the blemish concealer under my eyes, collection 2000 lip/cheek tint (same as benefit benetint but costs about £3.99) and some mac zoomlash or whatever mascara I pick up first, also a slick of chapstick or vaseline.
