EDIT – I have stated in the review that the scent of this didn’t last long on my skin, however a comment has been left by Natalia who found the scent very long lasting; so if you are a bit dodgy with smells, have a test and a sniff before you purchase!

During a recent meet up with a few other bloggers, a discussion about skincare inevitably arose… I mentioned my love of Elemental Herbology’s Cell Food (see HERE for review), which is an organic skincare product I love, and will repurchase, but is pricey, and the discussion turned to affordable organic natural skincare. I was enlightened at this point about the Organic Surge range by Get Lippie, who regularly reviews organic ranges on her fab blog (look out for her “Organic Wednesday” posts; she also does fabulous makeovers and all the other temptations/reviews you would hope for from a blog!) – I’d recommend checking it out HERE.


What’s great about this range is that it is affordable (Prices range from £3.99 to around £7.99), available (at Boots, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, John Lewis, Lloyds Pharmacy, selected healthfood chains and online – where there is currently 20% off all orders). The range is also free of the following “nasties”;

• Parabens, sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate.
• Synthetic perfume, artificial colourants.
• Chemical antioxidants mineral oils, petroleum, propylene glycol.
• Aggressive foaming agents.

Organic Surge focus instead on adding pure plant extracts and organic essential oils (certified by the UK soil association) to their products, as well as being cruelty free. They also contribute to charities supporting vulnerable children in Africa – namely Watoto and Kenya Childrens Home. The range is not officially organic certified – they explain this on the website – “Organic certification is a very complex issue with varying rules and standards from one certifying body to another.
Whilst we use only essential oils that are certified organic by the UK Soil Association we felt that we would have to compromise on performance and affordability to make the products comply with certification requirements, where an important ingredient, while natural, may not be on their list of permitted ingredients. We are very proud of our products and the ingredients they contain. Please be reassured that we constantly monitor the situation on European organic standards and review certification options”

This is obviously the dry skin formula, however they also make a day cream for all skin types, as well as a night cream.

For the standard price of £7.99, you get 50mls of product which comes in a glass jar with a screw on plastic (but sturdy) lid. 

The first thing you notice when you open the jar is the smell – In this case Rose Geranium oil (organic, natch), which I personally really like. Often products which contain rose oil can be a little overwhelming and heavily “old lady” scented, however in this case, the addition of the geranium lifts it, and it smells fresh and light. In any case, the scent doesn’t linger for too long following application.


My skin is combination-dry, and gets drier in the winter. In the current horrid weather, it’s even drier. I’ve been using this as a day cream, on top of my cell food serum for about three weeks now, and I have to say I am really happy with the results. 


The cream manages to be rich enough to soothe my skin, and hold flakies firmly at bay, without being overwhelming. Often, even though my skin is dry, I find creams made for dry skin (drugstore ranges in particular) are fine at the start of the day, however by mid afternoon my skin can feel a little overloaded, and my t-zone can be quite oily, even though this is normally not an issue for me (I suspect this may not be quite rich enough for very dry skin as a result of this). It absorbs easily and disappears into skin within five minutes, leaving no residue, and makes a great base for makeup application.

I’ve had no issues with breakouts or spots whilst using this cream.


The one thing I’d love to see added would be a sunscreen, however this is often an issue with natural skincare ranges, as it difficult sourcing suitable, and scientifically approved sunscreens, especially in this price range. If I was being very picky, I have to say, I always prefer a pump for hygeine reasons.

A great low cost organic range, well worth a try. They also produce bath and shower products, shampoos and conditioners, as well as body lotions and handcreams. This moisturiser produces good results, and is makes no false promises or claims. It moisturises well, without being too heavy, and I’d happily repurchase this.
