I have been promising to do this post for Happy1234 for weeks now, so here it finally is! I recently purchased both these products;
l. MAC MSF ‘Soft and Gentle, r. NARS ‘Albatross’ and ‘Orgasm’ powder blush duo.
Swatches shown in natural light on the left and artificial light on the right side. I know they don’t really show up too well, but they are highlighters and anything too bright would look rediculous! I had to layer these products over a base layer of paintpot (I used painterly here) to get them to show on the camera…
As you can see, the MAC MSF is slightly pinker, whereas Albatross is more of a subtle gold sheen. I noticed when doing these swatches, that there was a lot more fall out of glitter particles with the MSF than the NARS product. In my opinion this makes the MSF more suitable for a night-time look.
Both of the products are effective highlighters, and do the job they were designed for. I personally apply them with a small blush brush (like a 109) in a ‘c’ shape starting at the brow bone and ending under the eyes at the top of the cheek bone. As I said though, I use the Albatross every day, whereas I feel I couldn’t do this with the MSF as it is more of a shimmery finish (most of the actual glitter can be got rid of by tapping the handle of the brush against something…) rather than the sheen that the NARS gives… so if I had to chose between them I’d probabaly go with NARS, although I do like both!
What do you all think? Do any of you have both products and how do you find them?

I;ve been toying with buying Soft & Gentle for a while but have decided to wait until the BBR Collection comes out because I like the look of some of the MSF's in that. I do, however, have Albatross and although I like it, I think it's slightly overrated. It highlights well but sometimes it tends to highlight my pores…not a good look!xxx
I just don’t like MSFs. Even though I have 4 or 5 they’re just way too shimmery for me to wear at all. Love albatross though.xx

After I found Albatross, all my highlighter MSFs went to the bottom of my drawer… they are so pretty to look at tho

This is really helpful as I’ve been procrastinating over buying Soft+Gentle for ages too, but this has definitely made me have second thoughts. I don’t want something that’s too glitzy for everyday wear..perhaps I need to investigate NARS..
